High-quality protein production and crystallization are pivotal in advancing the field of drug discovery. However, this remains a critical bottleneck, requiring technical expertise and equipment often beyond the reach of individual research labs. The Drug Discovery node of Sydney Analytical (SA) at the University of Sydney helps in bridging this gap for researchers by providing a central platform with the state-of-art equipment and workflows for protein production, characterization, and crystallization. Our facility specializes in expression of soluble and membrane proteins. Our aim is to assist researchers from all backgrounds with the expression, purification, and analysis of their proteins of interest. We work with three different expression hosts (bacterial, insect, and mammalian cells), and use highly specialised protein purification and characterisation equipment. For over 6 years at University of Sydney, I have worked on various challenging targets, including multi-subunit complexes and membrane proteins for both academic and commercial organisations.
